凯丝初入乐队时，还发生过一些波折。乐队主唱John Philips认为她的音线不高，无法与乐队其他成员构成完美和声，所以一直不同意她的加入。后来由于一次意外事故，凯丝的头部被重物击中，造成轻微脑震荡，住了几天医院后，她居然可以唱上去了！就这样，Mama Cass Elliot成了新乐队的一员。
